Organic Cotton vs Conventional Cotton - a Tale of Opposites

We love organic cotton. It's a textile superhero that can wick away sweat, keep the sun at bay, allow your skin to breathe and be both soft and strong in the same breath. While organic cotton may well be a superhero, not all cotton is created equal. 

Conventional Cotton vs Organic Cotton

Conventional cotton covers 2.5% of the world’s cultivated land yet uses up to 16% of the world’s insecticides. It’s a crop that is extremely hard on our earth and the people and communities where it’s grown.

When you consider that much of the developing world's cotton suppliers still pick cotton by hand – and the developing world produces the vast majority of cotton – then you can understand the implications of removing chemicals from the equation. In fact, the World Health Organization estimates that 20,000 people annually die from pesticide poisoning in developing countries, many of those deaths occur among cotton farmers.

Organic cotton, by contrast, is grown without insecticides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers - and yet it currently only makes up approximately 0.93% of global cotton. Organic cotton is better for the planet and its people, ensuring little harm to humans, farmland, and the ecosystem as a whole.
