Made by an ethically-operated 4th generation family business in Japan. All products are dyed using low impact dyes, a non toxic fabric dye that has been certified as eco-friendly by Oeko-Tex with their Standard 100 label. Oeko-Tex is an international trademark with stringent standards for product safety and sustainability, so you can be sure any dyes with the Standard 100 label are completely devoid of harmful substances.

We designed the Pearl to solve a problem most people don't even realize exists: conventional synthetic hair ties damage hair because of how they're made.

Traditional synthetic elastics are smooth and slippery — which means they slip against hair, and the instinct is to wrap tighter or wrap more times to get a hold that stays. That repeated tension concentrates mechanical stress at the tie point, weakening the hair shaft and placing chronic pressure on the follicle. Over time, that pattern contributes to thinning at the hairline.

By engineering a Pearl waveform, we distribute that pressure across a textured surface. The grip holds without slipping — so there's no need to over-wrap, no excess tension, and significantly less cumulative stress on the follicle.

We chose long-staple organic cotton because its naturally smooth, porous surface creates far less friction against the hair cuticle than synthetic fibres. Synthetics generate friction and static charge against the cuticle with every use — lifting the protective scales that keep hair shiny and strong. Organic cotton glides. Cuticle scales stay flatter. The difference accumulates over months of daily wear.

Plant materials are, by nature, capable of being broken down and returned to the soil - eventually. KOOSHOO products are created in a way that makes them durable, strong and high performance, but they’re still plant-based materials, which means they will wear down (just as intended) - but proper care can extend their life. To maximize longevity, avoid storing them in direct sunlight, stretching them while wet, or letting oils and hair products linger on them.

Wash your KOOSHOO Hair Ties with like colors in cold water and lay flat to dry. Good as new.
