Our world is facing major challenges right now that impact every living organism on earth. Our oceans in particular are at considerable risk — and they need our help to change their future. It’s time for us to take a stand and protect our natural environment, together.
Today, we are proud to announce that KOOSHOO has teamed up with Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. Founded in Vancouver in 1977, Sea Shepherd is a non-profit that fights to protect our oceans and marine life. The organization takes direct action to safeguard endangered species and strives to eradicate illegal activity against the world’s oceans.
By coming together, KOOSHOO and Sea Shepherd seek to raise awareness of the problems facing our ocean ecosystems.
Introducing Sea Shepherd x KOOSHOO Hair Ties for Ocean Conservation
Sea Shepherd reached out to us in early 2017, looking to partner on an upcoming fundraiser. The conversation soon moved to something bigger: an ongoing, collaborative project to create a constant stream of donations to support ocean conservation.
Our plastic free, organic cotton hair ties were a natural fit with Sea Shepherd’s cause. And this brings us to a very exciting announcement: Sea Shepherd x KOOSHOO Organic Hair Ties.
Together, we created a collaboration pack of hair ties in a custom color-way to match Sea Shepherd’s most famous ship: the camouflage-painted Bob Barker. Sea Shepherd provided the color Pantones and we took it from there, matching them with azo-free and low-impact dyes. As always, the hair ties are made from 100% biodegradable, organic cotton and natural rubber.
Why Collaboration Matters
For KOOSHOO, partnerships are about teaming up with companies who share our values and communicate an eco-minded message to the world. It’s about coming together for a shared cause to amplify their voice and shed light on world issues. Collaboration is an opportunity to cross-educate between audiences and spread awareness of causes we all should care about.
Sea Shepherd seeks to enlighten the public about the current state of our oceans and empower them to take action. KOOSHOO shares a similar message: each product aims to reduce environmental impact, promote sustainability, and encourage customers to think deeper about their buying habits.
Our plastic-free hair ties in particular are a much-needed alternative to traditional plastic hair ties that take at least 500 years to break down in oceans or landfills. By collaborating with an organization like Sea Shepherd, we can speak to an audience deeply passionate about the oceans and get them to question how their choices are affecting our ocean habitats.

The Sea Shepherd x KOOSHOO Hair Ties are available in Sea Shepherd's online store and at kooshoo.com. All proceeds from hair ties sold by Sea Shepherd go towards ocean conservation. Additionally, $2 from every pack sold at kooshoo.com will go to Sea Shepherd’s ocean conservation efforts. Every pack comes with a custom-printed, educational postcard that shares how you can make a difference to help keep plastics out of our oceans.
