We’re children of the eighties.

We wore neon. We had side ponies. There was definitely some spandex in the mix and perhaps even a mullet along the way.

And of course, there were scrunchies. Lots of scrunchies.

But that was a different time.

Plastic was still seen as a miracle product. Big oil knew about global warming but was spending enormous amounts of money to keep that inconvenient truth quiet. Sweatshops were pumping out Nikes (and everything else) without the world paying attention to factory conditions.

In other words, it wasn’t all good.

Fifteen days ago the twenty-twenties began - a blank slate of a decade where we get to write the history of our choosing. In our version, we get to relive all the good of those glorious 80’s, minus all of the bad.

With that intro, let’s turn to kicking off this decade in all its ruched and voluminous glory. We’re beyond excited to introduce to you our newest product…

The Most Responsible Scrunchie Ever Made

These scrunched beauties are made of only 2 materials and both are fair trade certified:

1. GOTS certified organic cotton - for the outer fabric, 70% of the elastic hidden underneath, the thread and the labels (certified by Fairtrade)

2. Natural tree rubber - for the remaining 30% of the concealed elastic that creates that stretchier-than-other-scrunchies stretch (certified by Fair Rubber Association)

This means anyone who plays even a minor role in the creation of these products is paid a living wage and works in a safe work environment. This is what builds communities - none of those sweatshops from the 80’s that heartbreakingly continue to exist today.

The materials are brought together at our GOTS and Fairtrade certified cut & sew facility. This ain’t no ordinary cut and sew. As detailed extensively in our Who Makes our Plastic-Free Hair Ties and Why it Matters piece, our cut & sew exists to be a social good enterprise that funnels profits to causes such as cancer treatment facilities.

The fabrics are dyed using OEKO-TEX and GOTS certified organic dyes. We use techniques that bring out the silk-like softness inherent in organic cotton, providing you, our customer, with a silky experience without any moths being harmed (yes, even the moths are excited about the decade to come).

Our packaging is made from FSC certified (that means: sustainable forest practices) recycled paper. We then ship the organic Scrunchies, along with your other KOOSHOO products, to you using 100% plastic-free shipping materials.

Put it all together and we are confident in saying these are the most ethical and eco-friendly Scrunchies ever made.

Here are some of the design details that make these not only the most responsible Scrunchies in the world but what we believe to be the best scrunchies on the market:

• We chose the optimal amount of ruching (the scrunch in scrunchie) to ensure just the right amount of volume and flair in your hair.

• The circumference of the Scrunchie is designed to fit comfortably on your wrist yet wrap 2 or 3 (or more) times around your hair in a secure, no-slip fashion.

• The organic cotton fabric is washed in a way to provide a silk-like feel, ensuring the Scrunchie has just the right amount of grip to give ratio. It’s the ultimate gentle yet strong companion.

• Our trademark plastic-free hair elastics on the inside provide more stretch and bounce-back than any other scrunchie we tested. We tested a lot.

• The six gorgeous colors are what remain from an original list of over 100 colors that we looked at. These final 6 were chosen because they could be any of sophisticated, playful, understated, grounding or rich, depending on what they are paired with.
